ABOUT THE ARTIST, CHRISTOPHER MAKOYAWO
“Art is your vision of the world; a canvas we come to understand and engulf with our personality to display for others.”
For as long as I can remember, this has been the case for my life. Abstract art has enthralled my spirit since my high school days as a youngster. Ever since the beginning, I remember my art being used to make others laugh, through the jokes I would convey with my drawings. The smiles and laughter would warm me up, and even though I would get in trouble at times, it was well worth it to watch other enjoy my art.
As I got older though, my abstract art became more mature. This is where my drive and passion to create began, taking my self and art in a new direction. I can recall, an accident which I observed, take place which inspired me. To watch a truck carrying gallons of paint, suddenly collide with another, startled me but also left me intrigued. I observed the paint splash across the black tar on the road and create a flow of colors. To see this same road at night, with the lights illuminated over the road, created a sight to see that will be a fond memory of mine for a lifetime. The paint produced a neon color, as my mind formed structures and lines that I have not seen before. Re-creating this memory on canvas gave me my first introduction in abstract art.
My journey can not be expressed without mentioning some of my influences such as Picasso and Wassily Kandinsky. These artists, despite their medium of creating art, have displayed an artistry which is both fascinating and enthralling, demonstrating their mastery of their expression. Their work has instilled in me a sense of spiritual stimulation and comfort that hasn’t been displaced as I continue to grow as an artist. My first book-“My Journey through Ink and Paint” can be found on these sites–Google, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.
